Meet Zoey: The Lab-Shepherd Mix With the Longest Dog Tongue on Earth
A record-breaking tongue that’s larger than life!
June 6, 2023 – When it comes to unique canine attributes, Zoey, a Labrador, and German shepherd mix, has the competition licked. Hailing from Metairie, Louisiana, USA, this friendly furball has snagged the Guinness World Record for the longest tongue on a living dog.
Clocking in at an impressive 12.7 centimeters (5 inches), Zoey’s tongue stretches longer than an average soda can. Owners Sadie and Drew Williams attest that this distinctive feature has often turned heads and prompted remarks from the public.
“Zoey was just six weeks old when we brought her home. Even in her first-ever photo, she was sticking out her tongue,” recalls Sadie Williams. “We initially thought she would grow into it, but it turns out her tongue outgrew our expectations. It’s incredibly large for her body size.”
Zoey’s elongated tongue truly takes center stage when she’s panting after some fun in the sun. “It’s a slobber fest,” laughs Drew Williams. “We had her tongue officially measured at the vet last year. Zoey being declared a record breaker was just the icing on the cake.”
This three-year-old furball isn’t all about her tongue, though. She’s a playful pup full of life, ever-ready to fetch anything thrown her way or take a plunge into any available water body. Interestingly, Zoey does show some canine quirks, like despising baths despite her love for swimming.
Zoey’s friendly demeanor attracts a lot of affection from strangers, though petting her comes with a slightly wet caveat. “We do warn people that Zoey might leave a souvenir on their clothes. Her slobber mark on a pair of black pants is quite a sight,” chuckles Drew.
Zoey has now surpassed the previous record holder, Bisbee, an English Setter from Tucson, Arizona. Bisbee’s tongue length of 9.49 centimeters (3.74 inches) held the record for a brief three months.
Before Bisbee, Mochi “Mo” Rickert, a Saint Bernard, was the record holder with an 18.58-centimeter (7.3 inches) tongue. Sadly, Mochi passed away in November 2021.
This heartwarming story is a reminder that each pet brings unique joy and surprises into our lives, just like Zoey and her extraordinary tongue.
