The Heartbreaking Impact of New UK Law: ‘Gentle’ XL Bully Dog Denied Kisses with Pony Friend

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a beloved dog named Zilpah, an XL Bully breed, finds himself unable to share kisses with his cherished pony friend due to a new breed ban in the UK.

This viral story sheds light on the consequences of dog breed restrictions and the impact on the lives of pets and their owners.

A Viral Video Sparks Conversation about Dog Breed Bans

Kimberley Crosby, a 43-year-old British dog owner, has recently taken TikTok by storm with a poignant video of her loyal companion, Zilpah.

In the heartrending clip, Zilpah, an American Bully dog, can be seen wearing a muzzle while waiting for his pony friend, Mac. Typically, the two unlikely friends would exchange affectionate kisses, but the mandatory mouth guard has made it impossible.

Impact on Zilpah: The Heartbreaking Tale of an American Bully

In late December of the previous year, XL Bully dogs were added to the UK government’s list of banned breeds under the Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991. Starting from February 1, owning a dog like Zilpah without a Certificate of Exemption will become a criminal offense.

Kimberley Crosby reveals how this regulation has dramatically affected Zilpah’s life, compelling him to wear a muzzle whenever he leaves the house.

On January 10, a video of Zilpah garnered over 386,000 views and 13,300 likes. The caption explained the poignant situation: “Such a sad video; the ponies he once smothered with love and kisses were nervous of Zilpah’s muzzle.

No more spreading his love to them; this is heartbreaking. These have been best friends for nearly two years and always groomed each other.”

Breed Ban Controversy: The Need for Responsible Ownership

The decision to ban certain dog breeds comes in the wake of multiple fatal incidents caused by these dogs, including attacks on children. However, Crosby from County Durham believes that addressing the problem requires more than just breed bans.

She emphasizes the importance of responsible ownership and condemns unscrupulous breeders who prioritize profit over the well-being of dogs.

Crosby says, “The government needs to crack down on unscrupulous breeders who disregard the well-being of the dogs and who they sell them to, solely for the sake of profit. Dogs should not be treated as mere accessories and discarded or abused.”

An Unlikely Friendship: Zilpah and His Pony Pal

Despite the XL Bully breed’s reputation, Zilpah is beloved by many, both humans and animals. Crosby attests, “Everyone who meets Zilpah falls in love with him because of his loving and kind nature.” Zilpah’s heartwarming friendship with a miniature Shetland pony named Mac has captured the hearts of many.

Crosby shares, “Zilpah and Mac share an amazing bond as they have grown up together. During our daily walks, we visit the ponies, and as soon as they see Zilpah, they come trotting over to greet him.

Zilpah patiently waits for them and loves to share kisses with Mac. In return, Mac grooms him, although he can sometimes get a bit rough with his typical stallion behavior. However, Zilpah is always patient and gentle with him.”

Community Reaction: Love and Support for Zilpah

The viral video of Zilpah’s plight has received nearly 1,000 comments, with users expressing their sympathy and admiration for Zilpah’s owner. One user commented, “Heartbreaking—his little friends who he clearly loves.

[You’re] such a good owner [though]. Well done for keeping your baby safe.” Another user remarked, “As heartbreaking as this is, you’ve done an amazing job of making your bully still look friendly. Loving the pink.”

Crosby responded to the outpouring of support, saying, “I wanted him to still look like the big friendly giant that he is in pink.”

In related news, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak previously labeled the American XL Bully breed “a danger to our communities,” particularly to children. This breed has been involved in over half of the UK’s dog attacks between 2021 and 2023.
